Cristiane Bena Dias

Cristiane Bena Dias has over 15 years of experience working with Environmental and Social (E&S) compliance of major projects worldwide. Cristiane’s knowledge and experience are drawn from the completion of a PhD covering International Environmental Law and Social Science, her work in private companies, the Compliance Advisor Ombudsman and at the International Finance Corporation (IFC). Prior to joining the Panel, Cristiane worked in the environmental department of private companies in Brazil, where she conducted E&S auditing of mining, manufacturing, and energy projects, provided legal support to permitting processes and engaged with affected communities. Cristiane worked at the Compliance Advisor Ombudsman Office for six years, where she conducted several compliance investigations of IFC’s projects involving a range of complex issues, including, labor and working conditions, sexual harassment, consultations, ecosystem services and water and air quality. Cristiane has also worked as an E&S specialist at IFC, where she supported the oversight of high-risk projects, provided internal advice on Policy issues and co-developed trainings on IFC Performance Standards. She is a published author of Getting Heard But Not Listened to: An Analysis of Public Participation in EIA in Brazil. Cristiane holds a Doctoral Degree (American University - USA), and a Master of Laws, both in International Environmental law (Queen Mary university of London – UK).
