In Memoriam - Alf Jerve - Former Chair Person of the Inspection Panel

It is with a heavy heart that we at the Inspection Panel announce the passing of former Panel member and Chairperson, Alf Morten Jerve. A Social Anthropologist by training, Alf brought with him close to three decades of work in the field of development, including extensive field research in Africa and Asia. Alf was with the Panel from November 2008 until end October last year when his term ended and he returned to his native Norway to resume his work with development research at the Christian Mikkelsens Institute. His sudden diagnosis with cancer and rapid health deterioration took many of his colleagues by surprise. All of us in the Panel team would like to convey our deepest condolences to Alf's wife Ann Mari and their three children, and to his many friends at the World Bank and in the non-governmental sector throughout the world. He was a respected colleague with great personal integrity, a sharp thinker, an avid traveler, and a good friend and companion. He left a major legacy for the Panel with his unwavering focus on the harm as the driver of the Panel process, and the introduction of new practices resulting in greater transparency as well as analytical rigor.

If you would like to express your condolences to the family, the Panel office (MC10-506) will have a condolence book available for signing on Monday (19th) and Tuesday (20th) next week.
