The Inspection Panel on June 14, 2019, welcomed a group of students from American University’s Washington College of Law (WCL) for a briefing on its operations. Following a welcome from Panel Chair Imrana Jalal and Executive Secretary Dilek Barlas, Operations Officer Tamara Milsztajn explained the Panel’s history, structure, mandate and procedures. Ms. Milsztajn also presented cases studies illustrating the various outcomes of the Panel process and fielded questions on a range of topics, including why Panel procedures require that a Request for Inspection be filed by at least two people and the role of non-governmental organizations in the filing of complaints. The WCL students are part of the program’s summer session on environmental law. Interns from Accountability Counsel and the Center for International Environmental Law also attended the briefing.
