​Panel Launches “Emerging Lesson Series” with Report on Involuntary Resettlement

The Inspection Panel on April 12 released the first in a series of reports that draw on the main lessons from its caseload over 22 years. The first volume of the Panel’s “Emerging Lessons Series” deals with involuntary resettlement, a topic in 21 of the 32 cases the Panel has investigated since it was created in 1993 by the Bank’s Board of Executive Directors as an independent complaints mechanism. The report identifies seven lesson from those cases, including that accurate scoping of risks is the foundation of successful resettlement programs.
