Accountability Mechanism Welcomes Summer Interns

The Accountability Mechanism welcomes Carlee Goldberg and Dhwani Kharel as Summer 2022 interns.

Carlee graduated this May from Duke University with a magna cum laude degree in Political Science and History.  She has worked as a Research Assistant for the Juvenile Delinquents and Adult Gun Laws study in Durham, NC, and interned with the US Department of Justice, National Conference of State Legislatures, International Action Network on Small Arms, and Cure Violence Global.  Her extracurricular activities while at Duke included serving as the President of the Triangle Debate League, a non-profit in Durham aimed at increasing access to speech and debate opportunities for local high school students. Carlee is a 2021 Truman Scholar, a 2022 Rotary Global Grant Recipient, a 2021 Nakayama Scholar, and a 2018 Angier B. Duke Full Merit Scholar. She will attend the University of Oxford this fall to pursue a Master of Science in Evidence-Based Social Intervention and Policy Evaluation.

Dhwani graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Dartmouth College this June with High Honors in Government. She was a Research Assistant for the International Menstrual Health Entrepreneurial Round-Up (IMHER), and previously completed internships at The National Women’s Law Center and Congressional Research Service in Washington, DC, and the Brooking Area United Way in South Dakota. In these positions, Dhwani supported research and advocacy on topics such as gender and racial injustice in housing, menstrual hygiene management, and congressional procedures. At Dartmouth, Dhwani was active with several organizations aimed at combatting gender-based violence. She received the Hannah T. Croasdale Award for this work, “awarded annually to a member of the senior class who has made the most significant contribution to the quality of life for women at Dartmouth.” Dhwani is also a 2021 Truman Scholar, and she received the Dartmouth Government Department’s James Fairbanks Colby Prize, given to the senior who has established the most compelling commitment to a career in public service.

Both Dhwani and Carlee will work with the Accountability Mechanism until the first week of August 2022.  Carlee will conduct research for the Dispute Resolution Service team cases during their dispute resolution phase.  Dhwani will provide research support to the Inspection Panel team on advisory reports and several cases at their eligibility and investigation phases.
