Panel Chairman Takes Part in Discussion with CSO Representatives in Côte d’IvoireInspection Panel Chairman Gonzalo Castro de la Mata took part in a discussion on “accountability and access to remedy” on May 6 with representatives of civil society in Abidjan. He participated in the “Dialogue on Development, Gender, Energy and Accountability” along with officials of the independent accountability mechanisms (IAMs) of the African Development Bank (AfDb) and International Finance Corporation, as well as representatives of Lumiere Synergie pour le Developpement and the Centre for Applies Legal Studies. Mr. Castro de la Mata spoke to group about lessons identified from Panel cases, as well as the redress aspects of the Panel’s work. The event in Abidjan was the Panel’s latest effort to make civil society in Africa aware of its work. The Panel recently conducted video conferences with civil society representatives from Senegal and from four Portuguese-speaking countries in Africa. Next week, the Panel is scheduled to hold a video conference with civil society representatives from Burkina Faso, Guinea, Mali, Cameroon and Niger to talk about its mandate and operations. While in Abidjan, the Panel chairman also met with officials and staff of the Compliance Review and Mediation Unit, the IAM of the AfDB, to discuss issues of mutual interest.
